The Centre for Analysis and Planning of Regional Development (CAPDR), in partnership with the Chișinău Municipal Regional Development Agency, organized on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Iași Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the joint event entitled:

“Consultation of the Business Environment in Defining RO–MD Development Strategies”, held within the Interreg NEXT Romania – Republic of Moldova 2021–2027 project

The event benefited from the support of the Commercial and Economic Promotion Office of the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Moldova, the Iași Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Association of Romanian Investors in the Republic of Moldova (AIR).

The working meeting aimed at strengthening structured dialogue between the economic environment and public authorities in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, by integrating the contributions of the private sector into the process of drafting regional and interregional development strategies.

During the consultations, key areas essential for economic competitiveness and regional connectivity were addressed: investment, construction, energy, agriculture, logistics, IT, and HoReCa, as well as the identification of administrative barriers and the formulation of concrete solutions to strengthen public–private partnerships.

Through this meeting, CAPDR and its institutional partners aimed to consolidate an applied consultation mechanism capable of directly connecting relevant economic actors with regional planning structures in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

The dialogue conducted within the consultations contributed to the formulation of concrete and applicable proposals, based on the experience and real needs of the private sector, as well as to the identification of common directions for economic cooperation and interregional development.

Participation of the business environment directly contributed to:

  • the formulation of concrete proposals for development strategies;
  • strengthening economic connections between Romania and the Republic of Moldova;
  • the development of joint initiatives and projects with interregional impact.

The conclusions of the meeting will be integrated by CAPDR into the proposals of the Sustainable Interconnection Programme Romania – Republic of Moldova 2028–2034 (SIPRM 2028–2034), a strategic document currently in the stage of interregional consultation and substantiation.

During the meeting, the Vice President of Soroca District Iurie Tănase highlighted the strategic importance of strengthening cooperation between the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine, in a regional context marked by economic, administrative, and institutional challenges. He emphasized that the development of local communities in the Republic of Moldova depends directly on the ability to build functional partnerships and to consistently access external financial resources, especially European funds dedicated to regional development.

The official stated that the expectations of local authorities in Soroca District are firmly oriented towards deepening cooperation with Romanian planning and development structures, particularly appreciating the role of the Centre for Analysis and Planning of Regional Development Centre for Analysis and Planning of Regional Development (CAPDR) and its leadership. In this regard, Iurie Tănase conveyed a message of confidence regarding the potential of this partnership to generate functional and sustainable development mechanisms:

“My name is Iurie Tănase, I am the Vice President of Soroca District in the Republic of Moldova. We must emphasize that we, in the Republic of Moldova, place great hope in cooperation with Romania and Ukraine respectively.

It is well known that we are facing multiple economic problems, and cooperation with the Centre for Analysis and Planning of Regional Development, led by Mr. Ion Ștefanovici Ion Ștefanovici, gives us great hope that we will be able to implement a permanent mechanism for attracting European funds and addressing the problems faced by our communities.”

In his intervention, the Vice President of Soroca District stressed the need to institutionalize a stable framework of cooperation that goes beyond declarations of intent and becomes a concrete instrument for implementing local and regional development projects. He highlighted that authorities in the Republic of Moldova continue to face structural difficulties; however, openness to external partnerships and the experience gained through joint projects represent an essential advantage in the process of administrative and economic modernization.

At the same time, Iurie Tănase noted positive developments regarding funding flows and the dynamics of development projects implemented in Soroca District and at national level, emphasizing that these trends confirm an upward trajectory of bilateral cooperation and integration into European support mechanisms.

In this context, the official symbolically highlighted the historical and cultural continuity between the two banks of the Prut River, stating:

“We have observed a steady increase in the funds coming to Soroca District and to the Republic of Moldova as a whole, because, ultimately, blood is thicker than water.”

The message conveyed by the Vice President of Soroca District thus outlines a pragmatic perspective on regional cooperation, where institutional partnership, technical dialogue, and access to European funds are essential elements for strengthening administrative capacity and ensuring the sustainable development of local communities in the Republic of Moldova.
