The Center for Regional Development Analysis and Planning (CAPDR), in partnership with the Regional Development Agency of Chișinău Municipality, organized on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Iași Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the joint event entitled:

“Consultation of the business environment in defining RO–MD development strategies”, held within the framework of the Interreg NEXT Romania – Republic of Moldova 2021–2027 project

The event benefited from the support of the Commercial-Economic Promotion Office of the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Moldova, the Iași Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Association of Romanian Investors in the Republic of Moldova (AIR).

The working meeting aimed at strengthening structured dialogue between the economic environment and public authorities in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, by integrating the contributions of the private sector into the process of elaborating regional and interregional development strategies.

During the consultations, key areas essential for economic competitiveness and regional connectivity were addressed: investments, construction, energy, agriculture, logistics, IT, and HoReCa, as well as the identification of administrative barriers and the formulation of concrete solutions for strengthening public–private partnerships.

Through this meeting, CAPDR and its institutional partners aimed to consolidate an applied consultation mechanism capable of directly connecting relevant economic actors with regional planning structures in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

The dialogue carried out within the consultations contributed to the formulation of concrete and applicable proposals, based on the experience and real needs of the private sector, as well as to the identification of common directions for economic cooperation and interregional development.

The participation of the business environment directly contributed to:

  • formulating concrete proposals for development strategies;
  • strengthening economic connections between Romania and the Republic of Moldova;
  • developing joint initiatives and projects with interregional impact.

The conclusions of the meeting will be integrated by CAPDR into the proposals of the Sustainable Interconnection Program Romania – Republic of Moldova 2028–2034 (PISRM 2028–2034), a strategic document currently in the interregional consultation and substantiation phase.

She emphasized that the geographical position of the municipality of Ungheni represents a major advantage in the context of new interconnection projects between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

“It is very important to have the geographical positioning and, namely, to have those connections, both logistical and energy-related, with Romania,” said Natalia Iepuraș.

Economic cooperation must bring benefits to both states

The Administrator of FEZ “Ungheni – Business” stressed that the development of economic relations and joint projects must generate advantages for both the Republic of Moldova and Romania, within a framework of balanced and sustainable cooperation.

“We very much want all these relations, all these cooperations, partnerships that are to be implemented, to be beneficial for both partners. That is, both for us in the Republic of Moldova and for those in Romania,” she stated.

The message highlighted the need to strengthen cross-border economic partnerships and to capitalize on shared regional development opportunities.

Major infrastructure projects pass through Ungheni

Natalia Iepuraș also referred to strategic infrastructure projects targeting the municipality of Ungheni, which can significantly contribute to increasing the investment attractiveness of the area.

“You also know that there is talk about the bridge over the Prut River, which is right in our city, and the electrified railway, which also passes through Ungheni,” stated the Administrator of the Free Economic Zone “Ungheni – Business”.

According to her, these investments are not merely technical connectivity projects, but also concrete opportunities for regional economic development and for intensifying trade exchanges between the two states.

“We have many joint projects that actually pass through our city,” added Natalia Iepuraș.

Message to investors: “They only stand to gain”

In her intervention, the Administrator of FEZ “Ungheni – Business” also addressed investors interested in opportunities in the Republic of Moldova and in the Romania–Moldova border area, emphasizing the advantages generated by infrastructure and accessibility.

“For those who come to invest, they only stand to gain, because from the perspective of infrastructure and all connections or access routes, it is an advantage,” she stated.

Natalia Iepuraș also expressed her hope that the ongoing joint projects will contribute to strengthening economic cooperation and to creating a favorable framework for investment and regional development on both banks of the Prut River.
