The Suceava commune of Fântâna Mare, a successful example of infrastracture modernization and improvement of living conditions

The locality of Fântâna Mare from Suceava County has made signifi cant strides in recent years in modernizing infrastructure and improving living conditions for its residents

By implementing a series of important projects, the local administration has emphasized priority areas such as education, healthcare, and culture. Clearly, this progress is the result of a strategic approach aimed at sustainable development and improving quality of life. Mr. Mayor, Engineer VASILE MUCILENIȚA, leads the commune with responsibility, with one of the major priorities of the municipality being the modernization of the education system.

Currently, the commune of Fântâna Mare has several ongoing projects aimed at continuing its development trajectory: from expanding water and sewage networks to constructing a photovoltaic park and a modern waste disposal site, the local administration aims to ensure a prosperous and sustainable environment for its residents.

In the future, the main objectives of the commune include building sports facilities, rehabilitating road infrastructure, modernizing public lighting, and expanding sewage infrastructure. These initiatives refl ect the ongoing commitment of the municipality to improve the quality of life and living conditions for all residents of the Fântâna Mare commune.

The year 2024 can be considered ideal for assessment. In this regard, please name 3 projects implemented by the Fântâna Mare Town Hall, which have changed the appearance in the last 4 years.

The primary concern of an administration is the continuous modernization of the locality and the improvement of the living conditions of the commune’s inhabitants, who, in the not too distant future, must have access to the same facilities as in urban areas.

I will list here water and sewage networks, asphalt on all streets of the commune, natural gas network, modern and equipped schools for high-quality education. All these are done with a lot of involvement from the town hall leadership and with significant financial efforts. In the development strategy of the Fântâna Mare commune, the projects were structured based on priorities, namely:

I) Education: Modernization of the “Ion Muceleanu” Secondary School in Fântâna Mare through PNDL – with a value of 3,320,000 lei; Modernization and equipping of GPN – Cotu Băii.
II) Health: Construction of a Medical Health Center through the PNDL 2 Program, with a total value of 3,510,000 lei;
III) Culture: Construction of a Cultural Center in the Fântâna Mare Commune, through CNI with a total value of 3,261,000 lei.
IV) Utilities: Establishment of a Water Supply and Sewerage System in the villages of Cotu Băii and Fântâna Mare through the PNDL 1 program – value 8,712,350 lei; Rehabilitation of infrastructure destroyed by disasters, through CNI, value 8,320,000 lei; Establishment of a water supply system in the village of Praxia, through PNDL 2, value 3,100,500 lei.

What strategies has the Fântâna Mare municipality adopted to manage this period marked by infl ation and all its adverse effects generating economic instability?

The leadership of Fântâna Mare City Hall has implemented a series of necessary strategies to achieve their objectives. These strategies have been adopted with the aim of ensuring the smooth operation of the city hall’s activities and avoiding interruptions in investment projects. Funds from the budget were only used for essential expenses, while operational costs were reduced in favor of supporting development expenditures.

What projects are you currently implementing?

Currently, in the Fântâna Mare Commune, we have several investment projects underway aimed at continuing the development process of the commune. These projects, at various stages of execution, include:

a) Expansion of the drinking water supply in the villages of Cotu Băii and Fântâna Mare, through the “Anghel Saligny” Program, valued at 8,610,000 lei. Upon completion of this project, all residents (100%) in the Fântâna Mare commune will be able to connect;
b) Expansion of the sewage system in the villages of Cotu Băii and Fântâna Mare – through the AFM – valued at 13,000,000 lei;
c) Establishment of an intelligent natural gas transportation and distribution network in ADI Fântâna Mare – Boroaia– Bogdănești, with a total value of over 105,000,000 lei (for the Fântâna Mare Commune, 34,000,000 lei);
d) Construction of a photovoltaic panel park through the Ministry of Energy – valued at 171,000 lei;
e) Construction of a waste depot through voluntary contribution through the PNRR – Component 10, valued at 4,710,000 lei;
f) Implementation of intelligent local management systems in the Fântâna Mare Commune through the PNRR -valued at 1,910,000 lei.

Mr. Mayor, what future goals do you have in mind for Fântâna Mare commune?

For the future, the Fântâna Mare aims to pursue a series of objectives aimed at continuing the process of development and improving living conditions within the community. Among these objectives are:

• Building sports fields with lighting to promote an active and healthy lifestyle and to provide suitable spaces for recreational and sporting activities.
• Repairing roads and streets to ensure easy and safe access to diff erent areas of the commune.
• Equipping the middle school with modern and high-performance equipment and modernizing the educational infrastructure to ensure a conducive environment for learning and the development of students.
• Putting into operation the two wastewater treatment plants within the commune’s area to contribute to the proper management of water resources.
• Expanding sewage and wastewater evacuation in the villages of Praxia and Spătărești.
• Modernizing public lighting by implementing efficient and sustainable lighting systems to enhance safety.
