Interview with Vadim Curmei – The Ecological Agriculture Value Chain Association of the Republic of Moldova

100 economic opportunities for the development of the Moldova Region on the A7 Highway route
Vadim Curmei, representative of the Public Association “Value Chain in Organic Agriculture”, plays a key role in promoting sustainable practices and organic farming in the Republic of Moldova
In the context of regional infrastructure development, such as the construction of the A7 Highway, this sector becomes of major importance, especially regarding access to international markets and the development of cross-border trade in organic products.
How do you see the impact of the A7 Highway construction on organic farming and the value chain in the Republic of Moldova?
The A7 Highway would significantly improve transport infrastructure, facilitating the rapid access of organic agricultural products to both national and international markets. Exports of organic products such as cereals and oilseeds to countries like the Netherlands, Romania, the Czech Republic, and Italy would become more efficient due to reduced transport times and logistics costs.
This would increase the competitiveness of Moldovan products on the European market, contributing to the strengthening of the value chain. Additionally, the highway would open up new opportunities for rural and ecological tourism, attracting visitors interested in organic products and authentic experiences in the rural environment.
What anticipated opportunities do you see for expanding trade in organic products to the markets in Romania and Europe?
Modern infrastructure such as the A7 Highway will stimulate the expansion of trade in organic products to markets in Romania and Europe. Organic farmers in Moldova will have easier access to neighboring markets, and the ability to distribute organic products in a short time and at reduced costs will increase their attractiveness to European consumers. This will contribute to the growth of exports and the diversification of markets for Moldovan organic farmers.
How will this highway support the improvement of value chains and access to new markets for organic farmers?
The A7 Highway will enable organic farmers to access Romanian and European markets more quickly and efficiently. It will reduce transport time and costs, allowing farmers to deliver fresh and quality products. In addition, the creation of logistics hubs and collection centers along the highway will facilitate the aggregation and distribution of organic products to international markets. These improvements will contribute to the creation of a more efficient and competitive value chain for organic farming in Moldova.
What initiatives does the Public Association “Value Chain in Organic Agriculture” have to capitalize on the opportunities provided by the A7 Highway?
Our association is already working on developing strategic partnerships to support organic farmers in taking advantage of these new opportunities. We plan to promote the idea of creating logistics hubs for the collection and distribution of organic products along the highway. These centers would simplify the export process and allow farmers to increase their income by gaining direct access to foreign markets. We will also launch marketing campaigns to promote local organic products and educate consumers about the benefits of sustainable farming.
Have you had discussions with partners from Romania to develop partnerships in the field of organic farming and cross-border trade?
We have initiated discussions with several partners from Romania to develop joint projects for the promotion and export of organic products. Specifically, we are focusing on the development of cross-border trade by facilitating the exchange of agricultural products between Moldova and Romania. These partnerships will help us expand distribution networks and strengthen the position of organic farmers on the European market.
How do you think the A7 Highway will contribute to the increased competitiveness of organic agricultural products from the Republic of Moldova?
The A7 Highway will reduce transport costs and delivery times, making our organic products much more attractive on European markets. Quality infrastructure is essential for our farmers to compete successfully in the international market. Moreover, the ability to deliver fresh products in a short time will allow us to more easily capture the interest of consumers concerned with the quality and origin of their food.
Which sectors in organic agriculture will benefit most from this modern infrastructure?
The sectors that will benefit most are those related to the production of cereals, vegetables, fruits, oilseeds, and other organic crops. These are products in high demand on European markets, and fast and efficient transport infrastructure will help organic farmers increase their export capacity. The rural and ecological tourism sector will also benefit, attracting visitors who want to try authentic organic products and explore Moldova’s rural environment.
Do you have any suggestions for maximizing the positive impact of the A7 Highway on organic farming and the value chain?
To maximize the positive impact, I believe farmers should be encouraged to form cooperatives. This would increase their negotiating power and facilitate the sharing of logistical resources. Additionally, it would be beneficial to create standardized organic certification schemes and develop marketing campaigns to promote organic products on international markets. Furthermore, it is important that the development of the highway be carried out in a sustainable manner, protecting the environment and supporting the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices.
Conclusion:
The A7 Highway represents a major opportunity for organic farming in the Republic of Moldova, facilitating access to European markets and improving value chains. The Public Association “Value Chain in Organic Agriculture” aims to support organic farmers in seizing these opportunities, contributing to the development of a sustainable and competitive agricultural sector.
