Botoșani INS Director Valentin POPA at FERM 2025: Distinction for CAPDR President Ion ȘTEFANOVICI

Mesaje publice
During this year’s edition of the Moldova Regional Economic Forum (FERM), held from July 9 to 13 in Vatra Dornei, a particularly notable moment of appreciation and public recognition was presented by Valentin Popa, Executive Director of the Botoșani County Statistics Directorate. He awarded an anniversary distinction to CAPDR President, Ion Ștefanovici, for his remarkable contribution to the development and consolidation of the Forum as a strategic platform for the future of the Moldova Region.
Strategic Forum with an International Outlook
The event, which has become an essential benchmark in the socio-economic landscape of the region, annually brings together leaders from public administration, the business environment, civil society, and international institutions. FERM 2025 hosted delegations from Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, European Union countries, the Western Balkans, as well as key regions in the Middle East and Asia – all with a strategic interest in the sustainable development of Moldova.
The Forum’s purpose is to facilitate dialogue among key regional development stakeholders, providing a professional framework to identify investment opportunities, expand cross-border cooperation, and conduct in-depth analysis of the challenges facing the Moldova Region.
Statistics – The Foundation of Strategic Decisions
Valentin Popa emphasized the importance of statistical data in supporting the business environment and underpinning public policies.
“I am here to inform you about the opportunities we offer to the business environment – statistical analyses, relevant data, and metadata. We currently have an ongoing economic forecast project for the next 10–15 years in the real estate sector, requested by a Chinese citizen interested in the Brașov area. Who knows, perhaps we will attract such investments to Moldova as well.”
Additionally, Valentin Popa mentioned that this year marks the 166th anniversary of the County Statistics Directorate and the National Institute of Statistics, highlighting the historical significance and scientific authority of the institution he represents.
Recognition for Involvement and Leadership
The central moment of his speech was presenting an anniversary plaque to CAPDR President Ion Ștefanovici – a prominent figure actively involved in organizing and developing the Forum.
“I want to present you with an anniversary plaque as a token of appreciation and esteem for your remarkable involvement and valuable contribution to the Moldova Regional Economic Forum. In addition, I am giving you a statistical yearbook and a book published by the National Institute of Statistics, under the coordination of Mr. Tudorel Andrei, about the lesser-known period of Mihai Eminescu – our unparalleled poet.”
President Ion Ștefanovici responded emotionally, expressing gratitude for the recognition and highlighting the inherent challenges of such an endeavor.
“You should know that I appear stern, but my soul is not. I value every kind word I receive because there are plenty of unkind ones. Hearing something positive about what I do gives me courage, motivation, and strength. Moldova has many beautiful things – a university with tradition, statistics, engaged people – but we have not showcased them properly until now.”
Perspectives and Commitments for the Future
Events such as FERM are not merely formal gatherings but true engines of regional collaboration and knowledge exchange. Through interventions like that of Director Valentin Popa, the role of official statistics in supporting investments, public administration, and the formulation of effective policies is reaffirmed.
FERM 2025 reconfirmed that the Moldova Region possesses the potential, human resources, and capacity to attract strategic investments, both domestically and internationally. It is, however, essential that local leaders, international partners, and civil society continue collaboration within an open framework, based on data and long-term vision.
