REGIONAL ECONOMIC FORUM MOLDOVA 2025

19th Edition – Vatra Dornei, July 9–13, 2025

Thematic Panel:

Tourism and Destination Development in the Moldova Region

Speaker:

Nicoleta Bogoș – Câmpulung Moldovenesc Municipal Library

Topic of the Presentation:

“Cultural Tourism and Historical Education – From Symbols and Legends to Modern Tools for Heritage Promotion”

Within Panel 7 – “Tourism and Destination Development in the Moldova Region,” the manager of the Câmpulung Moldovenesc Municipal Library, Nicoleta Bogoș, offered an innovative perspective on the connection between education, history, and tourism. Drawing from her own experience as a teacher with over 30 years of activity, Nicoleta Bogoș emphasized how children’s first encounters with Romanian history are often built on living symbols, such as the “Oak of Borzești” – an emblematic element of the national heritage.

Culture and Education, Pillars of Authentic Tourism in Moldova

“My first contact with Romanian history, from my experience as a child, parent, and teacher, was the Oak of Borzești and the legends of Dumitru Almaș or Bolintineanu. As a teacher, I try to open children’s minds and hearts, to move them emotionally and instill a love for history,” explained Nicoleta Bogoș.

She highlighted the importance of modern and engaging educational materials, such as historical feature films, which can become a real teaching aid and a tool for cultural tourism.

“I will probably be the first teacher to encourage the current generations to watch a film featuring characters like Ștefăniță and Mitruț, to understand the historical truth beyond textbooks. This film can serve as a starting point for cultural tourism and a way to raise funds for education and culture.”

Additionally, Nicoleta Bogoș extended an invitation to the producers of the film “Soarele Moldovei”, Claudia Stravositu and Adi Codoisă, to bring this experience to Câmpulung Moldovenesc, a place that could become a cultural attraction center for students, teachers, and the local community.

“Valuable things start with small steps, and culture and education, although often considered secondary, can play a central role in developing authentic and sustainable tourism.”

Collaboration Between Institutions and the Educational Sector

Continuing the speech, Claudia Stavrositu spoke about the extraordinary impact this project has on children and teachers in Romania. She shared stories about screenings organized at the Romanian Peasant Museum in Bucharest and the positive feedback received from educators.

“The messages we received are extraordinary – children were moved, discussed the film with their parents at home, and even purchased it to use at school. It is a clean film, without political bias, aimed at sparking interest in history.”

Claudia Stavrositu emphasized that the film presents Stephen the Great through the eyes of childhood, an approach designed to bring young audiences closer to the national heritage, offering a unique perspective on legends and historical values.

“We were inspired to start with Stephen’s childhood so that the audience could more easily identify with the character and get to know him in depth.”

Challenges and Perspectives for Cultural Tourism in the Moldova Region

The dialogue highlighted several key themes: the need for integrated strategies that combine cultural heritage with tourism infrastructure, the importance of education in creating a generation aware and eager to discover and promote local values, as well as the role of collaboration between cultural and educational institutions and economic stakeholders.

Initiatives such as those proposed by the Câmpulung Moldovenesc Municipal Library can serve as relevant examples of best practices in leveraging cultural heritage for regional tourism development.

Conclusions

The Regional Economic Forum Moldova 2025 reaffirmed its role as an essential platform for dialogue and collaboration aimed at the sustainable development of the Moldova Region.
