SPEAKER – Adriana RAIA – Commercial Officer – Ștefan cel Mare Airport, Suceava
TOPIC: “The Development of Ștefan cel Mare International Airport, Suceava – Between Necessity and Opportunity“
The Airport: A catalyst for economic growth
Adriana Raia thanked the organizers and the audience, emphasizing the crucial role that airports play in today’s globalized economy. “Airports are vital structures, not only for rapid transport but also as hubs that catalyze regional economic growth and promote sustainable mobility”.
Ștefan cel Mare Airport in Suceava serves a population of 2.5 million people, providing a vital connection both within Romania and beyond its borders. “We recorded a peak of over 100,000 passengers in 2020, and European funding along with county budgets have been essential in strengthening and developing our infrastructure”.
Investments and continuous growth
Investments in airport infrastructure have been crucial for the growth and modernization of Suceava Airport. “We have invested in modern equipment and airport facilities to ensure high standards of safety and security,” explained Adriana Raia. She mentioned that the new spaces added in April and March have simplified travel and improved connectivity, facilitating access to larger trade and service markets.
The traffic potential of Suceava Airport is a key factor for future development. “Traffic potential drives the future development of the airport and the need to meet investment requirements to remain relevant and competitive in the region”.
Adaptability and resilience
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the current geopolitical context, Suceava Airport has demonstrated remarkable adaptability. “We were affected by pandemic restrictions and the resulting economic turbulence, but we managed to ensure operational resilience”, emphasized Raia. She also highlighted the strategic importance of the airport, located on the border of NATO and the European Union, in the context of regional conflicts.
In conclusion, Adriana Raia emphasized the importance of continued investments in airport infrastructure to ensure economic growth and regional mobility. “Investments in airport infrastructure are vital. A kilometer of highway takes you just one kilometer, but a kilometer of runway takes you anywhere”, Raia concluded, underscoring the unlimited potential of airport development.
