TOPIC: “The Discover North-East Project – A Collaboration and Training Platform for Promoting Tourism in the North-East Region of Romania”
Roxana Șlemco, Executive Director of the North-East Regional Study Center, ADR, began her presentation at the “Regional Economic Forum Moldova 2024” by introducing “The Discover North-East Project – A Collaboration and Training Platform for Promoting Tourism in the North-East Region of Romania”, a project aimed at promoting the region’s tourism potential. “The North-East region is undiscovered, and the promotion of integrated regional tourism can transform short visits into extended stays”, emphasized the CRS NE Director.
Multiple initiatives have been carried out as part of the project, contributing to the increased visibility and attractiveness of the region. These include the organization of nine editions of the “Discover North-East Regional Tourism Gala” and the launch of the “My Region in Europe” campaign. Additionally, the portal www.descoperanordest.ro and its associated Facebook page provide detailed information about tourist attractions, routes, accommodation, restaurants, and cultural events throughout the region.
The Route of Voivode Stephen the Great and Holy
A successful example of the promoted initiatives is the “Route of Voivode Stephen the Great and Holy”, a circular cultural tourism route that brings together historical, cultural, and natural landmarks associated with the great ruler. Launched in 2019, this cross-border route Romania-Moldova connects 20 sites in Romania and 9 in Moldova. “It reconnects historical, cultural, and natural treasures and tells the story of the great ruler. The project is funded through Be.Cultour and utilizes innovative solutions for promotion”, explained Roxana Șlemco.
The Bison Land’s Heritage Romania
This innovative project, “The Bison Land’s Heritage Romania,” connects Neamț Fortress and Neamț Monastery with the natural and cultural heritage of the Bison Land. The initiatives include setting up tourist trails, guided tours, recreational culinary events, and a Treasure Hunt app using augmented reality. “EcoBrunch: Recreational Culinary Events – connecting gastronomic heritage, folklore traditions, and local artisans” is a key feature of this project.
Digital Nomads Platform, Romania
“Digital Nomads Platform Romania” aims to attract digital nomads, offering personalized tourism packages based on gamification. “The tourist will step into the role of a historical character and will have access to customized experiences. The platform co-creates and organizes experiences in collaboration with local operators, targeting ICT professionals and their families”, explained Roxana Șlemco.
Stephen’s Route site update Republic of Moldova
The update to the Stephen the Great Route website in the Republic of Moldova involves a digital platform that allows tourists to create their own routes. “Each tourist will be digitally connected to all the locations on the route, experiencing an authentic and remarkable journey”, added the CRS NE Director.
ECoolTour Platform Republic of Moldova
ECoolTour is an innovative platform that generates personalized tourist routes based on user preferences. It facilitates the complete planning of the trip, from tourist attractions to accommodation and restaurants. “Users can pay for everything through the platform and provide feedback, contributing to the diversification of the tourist experience”, explained Roxana Șlemco.
In conclusion, the “Discover North-East Project” demonstrates that through education, partnerships, and the use of innovative technology, the tourism potential of the region can be fully harnessed, offering tourists authentic experiences and contributing to the sustainable development of the region. “These initiatives not only develop the tourism offer but also engage the local community, generating well-being and social cohesion”, concluded the CRS NE Director.
