TOPIC: “Mental Health in a Cross-Border Context”
Through her message, Evelina Gherghelegiu, head of the Department of Foreign Relations and European Integration at the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in the Republic of Moldova, presented, during the “Moldova Regional Economic Forum 2024”, the higher education institution, highlighting its achievements and medium-term development directions.
Founded in 1945, the university enjoys a history of excellence in medical and pharmaceutical education. USMF offers diverse programs, including five bachelor’s programs, three integrated programs, seven master’s programs, 46 doctoral programs, and 50 postgraduate specialties.

“In its nearly 79 years of activity, the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in the Republic of Moldova has managed to create a history of excellence not only in the country but also abroad. Here, the foundations of higher medical and pharmaceutical education were laid, and domestic medicine was strengthened, providing the most welcoming study environment for ambitious, courageous, curious young people passionate about research and initiatives in mental health”, stated Evelina Gherghelegiu.
Development of a University Mental Health Center
A central point of the presentation was the initiative to develop a university mental health center. This center will ensure the continuous training of students, doctors, and specialists in the field of mental health, contributing to the improvement of the quality of integrated mental health services at the national and regional levels.
“The project ‘Youth MINDFUL: Promoting Resilience and Empowerment of Mental Health’ reflects our commitment to advancing in this vital area,” highlighted Evelina Gherghelegiu. “The university will diligently monitor the development of mental health initiatives, ensuring stakeholder satisfaction as a priority.”
Impact and Application of Acquired Knowledge
Participation in the Regional Economic Forum Moldova 2024 was a valuable opportunity for USMF delegates to gain updated information about cooperation opportunities in the extended region of Moldova, interact with experts and leaders in the field, and establish lasting professional relationships.
