Project Objectives

The project aimed to raise awareness among target groups and final beneficiaries about historical and cultural heritage sites. Another major objective was to increase the flow of tourists in the cross-border area. These objectives were achieved by creating and distributing attractive informational products such as videos, 3D virtual tours, and multilingual publications.

“Cross-border collaboration is essential for promoting our shared cultural heritage and boosting tourism in the border regions,” said Doina Turcu.

Restoration of the Geology Museum

An essential objective of the HE-CROSS project was the restoration of the Geology Museum at the National Technical University of Oil and Gas in Ivano-Frankivsk and its promotion as a tourist landmark. The restoration of this museum was crucial for its inclusion in the tourist circuit and for the preservation of the region’s geological heritage.

Among the project’s outcomes were the use of financial support from the program to promote local culture and preserve historical heritage, the renovation and inclusion of the aforementioned museum in the tourist circuit, the creation of a website with an interactive map of heritage sites, and the production of 100 3D virtual tours. “The project involved approximately 320 students and employees in the tourism sector, and the long-term beneficiaries were estimated at 2,000,000 members of local communities, 400,000 tourists, and 250 tour operators and employees of travel agencies from Romania and Ukraine,” highlighted Doina Turcu.

The Importance of Cross-Border Cooperation

BRCT Suceava’s participation in this forum highlighted the cross-border dimension and European vision of the #INTERREG neighborhood programs, funded through European funds at external borders. BRCT Suceava promoted cross-border cooperation and showcased successful #ENICBC projects that contribute to the development and prosperity of the region, highlighting the strong partnerships between Romanian and Ukrainian entities.

“The event demonstrated the importance of regional collaboration for sustainable development and created a conducive environment for dialogue and the exchange of best practices among all parties involved,” concluded Doina Turcu.

Conclusion

The HE-CROSS project is an eloquent example of how cross-border collaboration can bring significant benefits in promoting cultural and historical heritage as well as boosting tourism. The achievements of this project demonstrate the importance of strategic partnerships for the sustainable development and prosperity of border regions.
