Module I – Mapping Opportunities in the Moldova Region in the Context of Attracting Foreign Investments and Revitalizing Foreign Trade, 18th Edition of the Regional Economic Forum Moldova, Vatra Dornei, 2024
SPEAKER – Florin JIANU, President of CNIPMMR
Topic: “Index of Romanian Entrepreneurship”
At the Regional Economic Forum Moldova 2024 held in Vatra Dornei, Florin Jianu, President of CNIPMMR and former Minister of SMEs, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism, addressed the topic “Index of Romanian Entrepreneurship,” highlighting the importance of mapping investment opportunities in the Moldova region.
His presentation included essential data for investors and entrepreneurs, featuring an index of Romanian entrepreneurship developed by the Department of Analysis and Research of the National Council of SMEs of Romania. The index measures 24 macroeconomic and perception indicators, highlighting Romania’s position regarding investments, entrepreneurship, and public policies.
“We are 17 years into EU membership. We are no longer at the beginning of the road but a mature country in terms of investments, entrepreneurship, and public policies. We need to convey a message of confidence about the investment environment in Romania, especially in the North-East Region, particularly given the presence of representatives from neighboring countries and other invited nations,” Jianu emphasized.
Among the macroeconomic indicators analyzed were the real GDP growth rate, inflation rate, and unemployment rate. Romania consistently ranks high in economic growth across Europe, being in the top 3 in recent statistical data. Although the inflation rate was high at the beginning of the year, it has started to decrease, with the European Commission estimating an average of 3% by the end of the year. Additionally, the unemployment rate is low, but there is an acute need for skilled labor.
“The growth in net monthly wages has been consistent, and the stability of labor taxation is crucial for investors. Additionally, the stability of the exchange rate has contributed to maintaining a solid economy,” Jianu added.
He also mentioned that Romania needs to avoid administrative complexity and adhere to the principle “one in, one out” regarding new regulations to facilitate SME development.
At the end of his speech, Florin Jianu, President of CNIPMMR, noted that the index of Romanian entrepreneurship places the North-East Region at a moderate level, with a score of 44 out of 100, while nationally, Romania is approaching an emerging entrepreneurial status.
“Thank you once again to our hosts for the invitation and I wish success to all the entrepreneurs present. Lots of confidence and success!”, concluded Florin Jianu.
