Ion ȘTEFANOVICI, President of CAPDR: “Nothing about us, without us – Romania will not allow its future to be negotiated behind closed doors.”
Mesaje publice
The Center for Regional Development Analysis and Planning (CAPDR) took note of recent international developments, illustrated by the meeting at the White House, where the President of the United States, Donald Trump, summoned the most important European leaders to a “session” that has become a global image.
In the midst of the discussions, the American president answered a phone call from the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin – a moment which, beyond its media spectacle, subtly illustrates how today’s foreign policy is conducted: through symbolic gestures and decisions with global impact, made within a small circle.
History has shown us moments when great powers negotiated over our heads – with dramatic consequences for our national destiny.
In this context, CAPDR underlines:
- No decision regarding European and regional security can be made without the voice of the frontier states, among which Romania plays a central role.
- No temporary ceasefire can replace a durable peace built on respect for sovereignty and international law.
- No sphere of influence can be revived in 21st century Europe.
For Romania not to remain a mere spectator, but a respected actor at the decision-making table, a national effort of strategic preparation is required.
- A long-term national objective (25–30 years), which includes the balanced development of all regions – Moldova, Transylvania, Banat, Crișana, Maramureș, Oltenia, Muntenia, and Dobrogea.
- A credible military security strategy, integrated into NATO, but also grounded on our own national capabilities.
- A plan for reconstruction and regional investments aimed at connecting Romania’s infrastructure, energy, education, and economy to major European and global flows.
Today, when major capitals compete in diplomatic spectacles, Romania must define its own future. Only through a well-set, firm, and assumed national project can we guarantee that nothing will ever again be decided over our heads.
