Module II – Development of Moldova through the A7 Motorway, the 18th Edition of the Moldova Regional Economic Forum, Vatra Dornei, 2024
SPEAKER – Leonard ACHIRILOAEI – Mayor of Roman
THEME: “The Importance of Communication Routes for the Development of Traveled Municipalities”
During his intervention at FERM 2024, Mayor Leonard Achiriloaei highlighted the strategic importance of the A7 motorway for the development of localities in its vicinity, with a special focus on the city of Roman. The mayor emphasized that this motorway represents a major opportunity for Roman, a city located in the center of Moldova and preparing to become a key industrial hub.
Mapping needs and strategic planning
“We all clearly recognized that we need to map our needs, and this is exactly what we have done in Roman”, said the mayor, referring to the initiatives started to leverage the city’s geographical position and the opportunities offered by modern infrastructure. The plan includes creating an industrial park in the northern area of Roman, an ambitious project that requires collaboration and extensive resources.
Regional collaboration for project success
The mayor explained that Roman does not have the necessary land area to create this industrial park on its own. Therefore, he reached out to neighboring localities, publicly thanking the mayor of Cordun for openness and cooperation. “As mentioned, we have identified an area of almost 100 hectares for creating the largest industrial park in the region”, he stated.
Infrastructure and necessary resources
After identifying the land, the next step was to develop a strategy for bringing all utilities to the area. “We are talking about access roads, utilities such as water and sewage, gas, electricity, and everything needed for the diversified development of these investments in the future industrial park,” noted Mayor Leonard Achiriloaei, emphasizing the importance of complete infrastructure for attracting investors.
Human resources and professional education
An essential issue identified by the mayor is human resources. Roman’s advantage is its demographic base of over 200,000 residents, representing a significant source of workforce. Achiriloaei highlighted efforts in professional training, thanking the University of Suceava for its partnership in the dual education European project. “We are preparing people for TRW Automotive, for ZF, now the German factory, the largest automotive investor in the area with over 2,000 employees,” he emphasized.
Development of the local business environment
Lastly, the mayor presented existing opportunities for the local business environment. “When attracting large investors to the area, they also need supporting business investments, such as cleaning, catering, and HORECA services”, explained Achiriloaei, highlighting the domino effect of major investments on the local economy.
In conclusion, Leonard Achiriloaei expressed gratitude to the organizers and partners for the opportunity to present his vision.
“We are trying to position ourselves strategically for regional development, striving to bring prosperity to Roman and the metropolitan area”, concluded the official.
